Flintloque and Ion age customs

Evening all,

For your viewing pleasure I bring you an Ion age custom and a Flintloque custom based figure.

The Flintloque custom was done by my friend Eve Hallow over at Eve Hallow miniatures blog. He put this rat on the base and sent him to me because he knew I was a big Flintloque fan. Well, it came to me unpainted so I had my work cut out for me, to take a great sculpted figure and a great based figure and paint it up. I had a great time painting this figure since I love painting Flintloque figs (the colors of the uniforms, etc.)

Well, this guy called out to me to put him in the McAlister tartan. Call me mad but I have always loved painting tartans. I will be using it in our Slaughterloo (mass-battle Napoleonic warfare) games as a turn marker -- whoever has the piper has the turn.  He will also be making a journey to the Chicago Highland games as a table piece, showing off the McAlister tartan and the Alternative Armies brand of excellent sculpted figures.

Next up we have a custom Ion Age figure brought to you by the collaboration of Eve Hallow and myself.  Eve had sent the piece to me with the above mentioned rat for the same reason - he knows I am a big Ion age fan. Well, again, it came to me built but not painted. After a long look at it the figure, it just cried out to be a painted up in a darker color scheme than what I'd painted my other Ion Age figs. After painting the rider up I decided to go with a polar bear look for the beast. After finishing the painting I put it on the base and then decided it needed more to it than just empty space thus we have the carnage of the war in the Ion age.

Happy Gaming.

Dwarf Month

Good evening dwarf fans,

I have decided to focus on dwarves tonight since it seems that it is dwarf month in some gaming companies.

This will be a short post displaying some of my painted dwarves from Alternative Armies Generic High Fantasy game.

I find these dwarf figures to have some of the best character qualities out there. Their individual faces and styles make any dwarf army interesting and colorful. I think they also would make great role-playing characters.

Pictured below is just a small sample of what you can find on the Alternative Armies web site. Their sister site has a nice selection of 15mm dwarves.

Thanks for looking, and happy gaming.

The orcs and superheroes take on the commissar

Good evening readers.

After a morning of shovelling snow and wandering around a bit, I finally got myself motivated to put paint to figure. Here are the results.

I got a good start on my Slaughterloo (Alternative Armies mass Napoleonic game) light infantry British Orcs. 54038 Orc Colour Party

I purchased the set below a while ago to do some alterations and set them aside because I could not figure out what I wanted to do with them.

Two of the figures were not altered but I took off the drummer's head gear and turned what I could not get off into hair.

I am in need of a light unit in S'loo, so I started with these 3 and I'm happy with the way they turned out. I was really happy with how the drummer's hair turned out. The hair was done by cutting grooves into what was left of the removed hat and then painting brown and drybrushing an ivory over it. The rest was just a normal paint job.

I am just really happy with how they look and looking forward to getting the rest of the unit done.

Next I decided to finish the superhero figures for the old Heritage game Superheroes and Supervillians from the 80s. This was my first miniature game, which I bought because I wanted to play a superhero game and it was the first one I found. To this day, I still have not played it. This of course could be because I lost the rules and then found them many years later.

Finally I decided to get the GW commissar painted that I have had for years.  I am not sure but I think it is OOP. I might add her to my INQ28 set.

Thanks to my good mate Eve Hallow for the inspiration on getting some of my old mini's painted with his excellent work.

Thanks for the look!

Cheers,

Bob

A productive Saturday.

Good evening.

Well, today was a very productive day for me as I got to sit down early and paint and build until early evening.

Below are the spoils of the day.

First off we have two 15mm Havelock battle suits from the Ion age. These were a Christmas gift from a friend. I was very happy to receive them. I had been wanting to add these to my Ion Age collection.
I did not put any of the many weapons on them yet, but I wanted to show them off. I have them painted up in the colors of the Prydian army and the Yordists (green &yellow) -- these are the two that will be fighting on the table as soon as I can find the time.

Second is the INQ28 I have put together. These are a ragtag bunch who are intent on bringing down chaos. I was inspired to put them together by a friend of mine whose blog reminded me how  refreshing it can be to take bits and bobs and come up with something new.  One day they may be able to take on the chaos that is brought into the universe.

Third is the Space Wolves I have been trying to get done for years. This is the first Blood Claw pack out of the five that have been sitting about waiting for paint. I was inspired by Eve Hallow's Grey Ghosts to get the wolves done. It has been a bit of a challenge to get them done, I wanted to go with the old 2nd-edition paint scheme.

Fourth is a Glorious Revolution-era project a friend and I are working on together. These figures are the start of a big build and paint project. Here are shown some of the cavalry and artillery I have built, many more to go on this. This project is very exciting to me as I like the musket era, plus the uniforms are fun for me to paint.

Hope you enjoyed seeing what I am working on.

Hello 1st blog post

Hello all,

Welcome to my first blog post.

I have been roleplaying for around 35 years and miniature gaming for around 15 years. I have been painting miniatures for the last 35 years when miniatures were made of lead - which explains a lot.

I started off playing Games Workshop games and moved on from there. These days I mostly play Alternative  Armies games (Flintloque and Slaughterloo, fantasy Napoleanic, plus their other games) with a smattering of  independents mixed in.

With this blog I will be posting works in progress and reporting on things I am working on. I will try to post game photos as well when I can.

Hope you all enjoy.

Cheers
Bob/Robin
